There were 1,500 people on the south lawn tonight to hear 45 accept the nomination for president. Almost no one wore a mask. And there was absolutely no social distancing. Trump gave his usual speech filled with dishonesty and self-aggrandizement. He straight out lied about Biden's record. He made false promises. Yep, just another day in Trump's America...
Tonight's line up of speakers was a parade of fascistic devotion for the president. It was the usual suspects including Rudy Giuliani, Ben Carson, and Ivanka Trump. They heaped praise on him for his protection of the real America, dedication to the common man, and for his singular commitment to protecting our rights. As a student of history, it was like watching Hitler's rise to power in real time and the transformation from a democracy to tyranny.
It has become clear that Trump's popularity with a sizable number of Americans signals the disintegration of our belief in each other and a total lack of understanding of the vast negative externalities of his regime. The fact that many have turned a blind eye to how badly this administration has done is a sad commentary on who we are as Americans. And unfortunately we are seeing our fellow Patriots slipping away into the false promise of authoritarianism. What a sad night for democracy.
The Republican party officially died tonight and a new party was born. The party of divisiveness. The party of hate, fear, and overt racism. The party of lies. The party of Trump.
Here we are at the crossroads once again. Now what are we going to do about it? A vote for Trump is a vote for the KKK, fascism, and fear. It's up to us to make the right choice. To bring back grace, love, and hope. We can't let our fellow Americans fall for the false narrative tonight. It's our duty to reach out to the people who are on the fence and let them know that together we can restore American greatness by voting out the worst president in American history.
